U.S. congressional panel probes White House on Porter abuse accusations: chairman

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A major congressional committee launched an investigation into how the White House handled allegations of domestic abuse against former aide Rob Porter, its Republican chairman, Trey Gowdy, told CNN on Wednesday.

“The chronology is not favorable for the White House,” Gowdy, chair of the House of Representatives Oversight Committee said. He was commenting on reports that the Federal Bureau of Investigation repeatedly told President Donald Trump’s administration about the allegations and warned that Porter should not be given access to sensitive information.
